Didn't turn out to be much of an article, and she didn't really quote anyone, but it can be found on Bobbie Short's site.

Monster Quest had an Episode titled "Sasquatch Attack"

Snell Grove Lake in Ontario is only accessible by flotation aircraft. The closest town is 250 miles away and is inhabited by 10,000 people.

The story goes that a sasquatch intruded into a fishing cabin and trashed it. A bear expert was interviewed and explained why he doubted it was a bear. The owners of the cabin (it is a fishing expedition cabin not permanent residence) placed a board in front of the door that had rows of screws poking through. This board resembled a bed of spikes.

It appeared that an animal approached the door, stepped on the board, and left a large amount of blood, tissue, and hair. The board sat outside for a couple of years where most of the DNA evidence deteriorated.

The board/evidence was studied by:

Jeff Meldrum (Does anyone here honestly not know who he is?)
Curt Nelson (Biologist, University of Minnesota)
Todd Disotell (Professor of Anthropology, New York University)

They pulled off blood, hair, and tissue samples. Jeff also made what appeared to be an outline of a human-like foot on the board that was about 17 inches long.

Also during the episode there were appearances by:

Tom Steenburg
John Green (told the Albert Osman story)

There was good filler content and Jeff and Curt spent a few days there. Murphy’s law made it rain the most of the time. The only oddity was a rock being thrown at the cabin. On another occasion a member of the crew threw a rock into the woods and a larger rock was thrown back.

The best part of the episode was the DNA and hair testing.

The hair was the typical squatch hair. It looked human except it lacked medulla and it had a tapered end like it was naturally worn down.

The blood and tissue samples were DNA tested by Todd Disotel. Unfortunately either the specimens were too decorated to test or they were not natural. There was no DNA to be found.

However…….

Curt Nelson tested the blood, hair, and tissue samples. He removed an inhibitor from the samples (galvanized residue from the screws), and had pure specimens.

The results were identical to human DNA except for 1 nucleotide poly morphisim. The nucleotide that was the difference is the same difference that is shared with chimpanzees.

The blood DNA said primate, but not quite human and not quite non-human primate. One of the base pairs is deviated. More DNA needs to be sequenced and more primers need to be designed to amplify different regions of the DNA.

They said that great apes share nearly identical DNA with man except for 35 base pair deviation. The Snell grove sample only had 1 base pair deviation. There is only a 1 in 5000 chance that this is human DNA.

Damn interesting.

Does anyone know where Curt Nelson stands regarding the possibilities of sasquatch?

I would love to hear more from Jeff Meldrum and Curt Nelson regarding their experience.

I suggest watching it!

I'm not sure if he still is, but he at least used to be BFRO, along with his brother Reid (Reed?).

Yeah, I was gonna say, Curt Nelson is with the bfro.

And, as I found out by doing some digging, Snelgrove Lake isn't as remote as they'd like us to believe. There's a First Nations indian reservation about 9 miles from the lake. And, according to their (the reservation's) website[http://www.slatefalls.firstnation.ca/] and [http://www.windigoeducation.on.ca/slatefalls.html], of their 120 band members, half of them are under the age of 18. In addition to the First Nation people, there are other fishing camps nearby on other lakes. So, yes, it is the only camp on Snelgrove Lake, but there are other people around. By watching the show, I was left with the impression that there wasn't another human for 200 miles. That simply is not true. So, to rule out human intervention and say this was done by a sasquatch, I think is really reaching. If you look at a topo map of the area, there is even a gravel runway just to the north of the camp.

Snelgrove Lake is located at: N51° 07' 14" W091° 48' 18"

Slate Falls First Nation Reservation: N51° 10' 9" W091° 35' 27" [9.9 miles from Snelgrove Lake]

Slate Falls Airport: N51° 07' 48" W091° 39' 56" [6.1 miles from Snelgrove Lake]

Sioux Lookout: N51° 05' 26" W091° 59' 56" [71.77 miles from Snelgrove Lake]
(nearest big town, pop. 5,000(2001))

The formula I used for calculating distance was found here: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/distance.html

I agree that the show was better than most. But, let's not overlook humans as doing the damage to the cabin. Blaming bigfoot for that...I don't know..I just don't buy it.

I would just like to add this. The lake adjacent to Snelgrove Lake is Bamaji Lake. They have fishing camps too, and they can be found here:

http://www.knobbys.on.ca/acco.html

Bamaji Lake is the same lake the Slate Falls Reservation is on.

Now, Snelgrove Lake is looking less remote all the time, isn't it?

In general I thought the show was interesting..

Thomas Steenburg always impresses me as one of the most straightforward, level headed Sasquatch investigators that appear on television.
That and including his posts on the BFF.

Steenburg's great, he's just a really, really nice guy. He's an excellent representative for us all with his objectivity and the way he presents himself and the subject. He's a great speaker!

Ok, huzzah for the start of this interesting evidence.

We now have to collect other samples of similar evidence, have those samples concur with the orginal pattern, and then when we can repeat our initial experiment with the same accuracy each time (each DNA sample is a match) then we are getting somewhere.

Recovering a sasquatch body or recognizable body part with matching DNA will close this issue for good.

I saw his Land Rover sitting behind him during the interview, I wonder if that's the same one that almost sent him into the wild blue yonder?

Ok... I just watched most of the latest (Wed. Nov. 28, 2007) episode in which they talked about the Patterson/Gimlin film and the ladies were at Skookum meadow.

Early in the program, Chris Murphy (I think...) says that the Skookum Cast is the "#2" proof of the existence of Sasquatch in the minds of the bigfooting community, right behind the Patterson film.

Ummmm... when did "we" decide that? Does he really believe he speaks for the "community at large" with any authority regarding the Skookum Cast?

I find that insulting. (and nearly embarassing)

From what I read on the BFF, DDA had a large input on what went onto the show. If that is true, that may be the answer to your question.

Wow... I guess I was 'wrong'. I was just informed that Chris was probably just giving his opinion.

Odd, I never heard him say that.

We can dissect this episode of Monsterquest until a squatch is found, and then someone will STILL find a problem with something.

What was interersting on this show is that attention was paid to scientific techniques and best practices of analysis using current technology to examine old and new pieces of bigfoot evidence. This makes bigfoot research seem much more credible to those in mainstream society (hopefully).

The lack of Dog and Pony shows on this show was refreshing, and hopefully will increase interest in the serech for this animal.

Both research teams did a great job, given the footage that was filmed and the choices that were made in the editing process. If anything, this was a great experience to learn and refine field methods, and those who stuck their necks out and participated in this program are to be commended.

Doesn't it seem a bit odd that the more scientific the expedition, the less hard evidence is discovered?
